The Fantasy Composite Experience

Preparing for Your Child’s Fantasy Composite Experience

Fantasy sessions are where imagination and artistry come together to tell a story — one that reflects your child’s sense of wonder and the beautiful individuality that makes them who they are.

These sessions are thoughtfully planned and carefully guided to bring your vision to life while keeping your child comfortable, confident, and safe every step of the way.

Because fantasy artwork is created in layers, the experience looks a little different from a traditional portrait session. A little preparation helps everything come together seamlessly.

Understanding the Process

Your child may be photographed in a specific position — such as pretending to fly, float, or reach — so they can later be artistically placed into a fully imagined scene.

In most cases, your child is photographed separately from the finished scene. The magic is thoughtfully created later through careful editing and artistic design.

Plan Around Rest and Energy

Fantasy sessions still rely on your child feeling relaxed and cooperative. When possible, schedule around their natural energy rhythms.

  • Avoid nap times if you can

  • Allow time for them to fully wake before arriving

  • Well-rested children engage more easily with imagination and gentle direction

When your child feels good, creativity flows naturally.

Full Tummies Matter

A hungry child will have difficulty focusing or enjoying the experience. Please plan for your child to eat before the session. You’re welcome to bring a small, non-messy snack if needed.

Comfort and contentment make space for creativity.

Comfort Is Key

Wardrobe and costume choices are selected with both comfort and vision in mind. Your child should be able to move freely and feel at ease.

Any special styling details will be discussed ahead of time so your child feels prepared and confident on session day. Nothing should feel stiff or overwhelming — just supportive of the story we’re creating.

What to Expect in the Studio

Fantasy sessions are calm, encouraging, and paced to your child’s needs. I gently guide them through:

  • Poses that support the final vision

  • Natural expressions rather than forced “acting”

  • Breaks as needed to reset and recharge

Children do not need to perform. Simple prompts and imagination cues are often all it takes to capture exactly what we need.

Trust the Process

Because the final artwork is created in stages, what you see in the studio may look simple — or even unfinished. Every pose, angle, and expression is captured intentionally with the completed image in mind.

Your child’s comfort always comes first. The artistry follows.

A Collaboration of Imagination and Care

Fantasy portraits are a collaboration between your vision, your child’s personality, and my artistic process.

With a rested, well-fed child and a relaxed approach, we create images that feel magical, meaningful, and uniquely theirs — artwork that preserves not just how they look, but how they dream.
